A mount and pet system for Hytale servers. Players tame, summon and ride ground mounts, raise companion pets, and everything from creating mount types to editing zones happens in-game through an admin panel — nobody has to touch a config file.

Mounts

/mount opens a list of everything a player owns, with summon and dismiss right there. Once summoned, a mount can be ridden, renamed and dismissed again at will. What a mount actually feels like to ride — top speed, max health, how much stamina it has, jump force, how long it takes to respawn after dying (30 seconds by default) — is all set per mount definition by an admin, so a "Warhorse" and a "Donkey" can behave completely differently.

Stamina drains while sprinting. Once it drops under a configurable threshold, 80% by default, the mount can't be pushed into another sprint until it recovers — this whole gate, stamina included, can be switched off for servers that don't want it. Mounts heal on their own outside combat at a slow, configurable trickle, with a short delay after taking damage before that regen starts again, and admins can additionally attach a specific item per mount that heals it instantly when fed.

Damage rules are split apart rather than bundled: whether fall damage applies to a mount, whether it can take damage at all while being ridden, and whether its own owner can hit it are three separate switches, each toggleable independently. If a mount ever falls too far behind its owner — 30 blocks by default — it teleports back rather than getting hung up on terrain or left behind entirely.

No-mount zones are plain box areas, marked by standing at two opposite corners in-world, where mounting is blocked outright. They're meant for spawn, arenas, dungeon entrances — anywhere a mount would be more nuisance than help — and a bypass permission lets staff walk through them regardless. A single server-wide limit (10 by default) caps how many mounts one player can own at a time.

Pets

Pets are a separate track from ride mounts: they don't take a mount slot, and instead of being ridden they just follow their owner around. /pet opens the same kind of list-and-summon interface mounts get.

Every so often — every 10 seconds by default — a player can interact with their pet to raise its happiness, with heart particles popping up over the pet as feedback. Left alone for too long, happiness drifts back down on its own. Feeding works the same way as mount healing: an optional item per pet definition, or a shared fallback item if a definition doesn't set one, each with its own cooldown so it can't be spammed. Some pet definitions can be flagged as flyers, with their own follow distance and separate walking/flying speeds so they don't lag behind or overshoot when the owner takes to the air. A small heart icon can float above owned pets showing current happiness at a glance, and the whole HUD element can be disabled server-wide if it's not wanted. Interacting with a pet isn't instant — it plays an actual animation with a progress bar, and walking away mid-interaction cancels it cleanly instead of leaving anything in a stuck state.

Mount Wheel

Double-tapping ALT pops open a radial menu of owned mounts and pets for instant summon or dismiss, without leaving whatever the player is doing to dig through a full inventory-style screen. Servers that don't want it can turn it off entirely.

Summoning Scrolls

Scrolls are ordinary items that hand out one specific mount when used, useful for shop rewards, quest payouts or event drops. They can be flagged soulbound so a player can't trade one away after picking it up, and the soulbound description text updates itself automatically if the underlying mount's rarity is changed later — nobody has to go back and re-write item lore by hand.

Admin Panel

/mountadmin and /petadmin cover everything above without a single JSON file. Mount and pet types get full create/read/update/delete — name, model, stats, rarity, heal item, jump force, and for pets also the feed item, follow behavior and whether it flies. Any player can be looked up to see exactly what they own and to hand out or take away specific mounts and pets directly; grants made to offline players are queued and simply arrive the next time they log in. Building a new mount or pet type walks through a guided form with live rarity selection and a preview of the model icon before saving. Zones work the same way in-game as they do for players: walk to a corner, mark it, walk to the other corner, mark it, name the zone — done, and it's listed (and deletable) right there in the panel. Server-wide tuning — teleport and follow distances, respawn cooldown, stamina, passive regen, feeding, the damage rules, the mount limit — is split across General, Damage, Mechanics, Items and Limits tabs so it doesn't turn into one giant wall of settings. There's also a debug tab with a verbose-logging toggle and an orphan-entity cleanup that sweeps up stray mount or pet NPCs left behind after a crash or a bug.

Storage

Runs on SQLite out of the box, so there's no separate database server to stand up or maintain for a single-server setup.
