ModernStorage

ModernStorage is a digital storage network mod for Hytale, inspired by systems like Refined Storage and Applied Energistics. It is designed to make item storage, automation, and crafting cleaner, faster, and easier to manage.

Instead of sorting dozens of chests by hand, you can build a connected storage system using controllers, terminals, disks, cables, automation blocks, and crafting tools.

Main Features

• Digital item storage through a central Storage Controller
• Searchable Storage Terminal for viewing, depositing, and withdrawing items
• Crafting Terminal with searchable recipes and direct crafting from network storage
• Live item updates while terminals are open
• Durability bars for damaged tools/items inside terminal views
• Storage Bus items appear directly in the terminal item list
• Storage disks with multiple tiers:
  • 1K
  • 4K
  • 16K
  • 64K
• Disk Drives for expanding total storage capacity
• Storage Access blocks for discovering nearby workbench recipes
• Dedicated Modern Bench for crafting ModernStorage parts without cluttering the vanilla workbench

Cable Network

ModernStorage includes a full cable network system:

• Storage Cable
• Import Bus
• Export Bus

The network system has been optimized to reduce unnecessary ticking and improve performance, especially around unloaded chunks and larger storage setups.

Automation

• Import Bus pull items from nearby containers into the storage network
• Export Bus push items from the network into nearby containers
• Import/export buses support item filters
• Searchable item filter selection
• Keep-amount logic for automation setups
• Storage Bus support for linking inventories directly into the network
• Match Inventory mode for smarter Storage Bus insertion behavior
• Priority system for Controllers and Storage Buses
• Furnace and processor support for automation routing
• Import/export Buses pause properly when their chunks are unloaded

Terminal / UI Features

• Search memory toggle for remembering your last search
• Live item count updates while terminals are open
• Crafting directly from stored materials
• Craft amount options:

• Recipe filtering through the Crafting Terminal
• Storage Bus items shown alongside stored disk items
• Damaged tools/items display separately instead of stacking incorrectly
• Durability bars are shown for damaged items

Wireless Storage

ModernStorage includes wireless access support.

With the infinite wireless upgrade, players can access their linked storage network from far away. If the access point chunk is unloaded, the system can use a safe disk snapshot mode so players can still access stored disk items without forcing unloaded chunks to tick.

Snapshot mode is disk-only. Physical containers, Storage Buses, Import Cables, and Export Cables resume normal behavior once their chunks are loaded again.

Crafting Progression

ModernStorage has its own progression through the Modern Bench.

• Modern Bench is crafted from the vanilla workbench
• ModernStorage recipes are split into categories:
  • Blocks
  • Cables
  • Disks
• Disk progression is tiered:
  • 1K uses iron
  • 4K upgrades from 1K with thorium
  • 16K upgrades from 4K with cobalt
  • 64K upgrades from 16K with adamantite

Performance Improvements

Recent updates include several performance and stability improvements:

• Reduced import/export ticking cost
• Improved behavior when chunks unload
• Better storage network caching
• Faster terminal searching
• Faster crafting recipe loading
• Safer background saving
• Improved terminal stability
• Fixed import/export buses not working until opened

Notes

• This mod is designed for players who want cleaner storage management, automation, and crafting workflows.
• Balance and recipe costs may still change over time.
• Some systems were built around current Hytale behavior, so future Hytale updates may require compatibility fixes.
• Textures are still WIP.
• AI assistance was used during development.
