Torch OffHand Dynamic Lighting

🔥 What is Torch OffHand?

Torch OffHand brings portable lighting to Minecraft Bedrock, allowing supported light sources to illuminate the area around you while you carry them.

Keep a light source in your main hand or offhand while exploring caves, traveling at night, mining underground or moving through dark areas.

Instead of constantly switching between your tools and your light source, Torch OffHand lets you keep your surroundings illuminated while continuing your adventure.

📖 Item Lore Improvements

Added a new Show Lighting Lore option.
Lighting information can now be completely hidden from supported items.
The displayed lighting distance now updates when the player changes their light distance configuration.
Fixed old lighting values remaining in the item lore after changing settings.
Fixed duplicated Lighting: X Blocks lines being added to items.
Existing duplicated Torch OffHand lore is now automatically cleaned up.
Sea Pickles continue to display their underwater information when lore is enabled.

🖐️ Offhand Improvements

Improved the system used to move supported light items to the offhand.
Light items now move to the offhand only when used while looking at the air, preventing conflicts with normal block placement.
Restored the reliable offhand transfer behavior used by the previous system while keeping the new configuration options.

⚡ Performance & Technical Improvements

Significantly optimized the main lighting loop.
Separated the dynamic lighting and item lore update systems.
Reduced unnecessary inventory scans.
Added cached player configuration and lighting states.
The system now only resets the active light when the light source, hand, priority or distance actually changes.
Improved handling when switching between Main Hand and Offhand light sources.
Fixed the previous configuration update order so new lighting distances are applied correctly.
Errors are no longer silently ignored and are now reported to the console for easier debugging.
Improved multiplayer handling and cleanup of cached player data when players leave.

🎨 Torch Config UI

A new item called Torch Config Book has been added.

It allows players to open a custom-textured interface and customize several torch-related settings.

Customize the light distance.
Enable or disable offhand torch placement with Sneak + Hit.
Choose whether lighting works only in Survival or in all game modes.
Enable or disable the sound played when holding a torch for the first time.

Torches can be placed while held in your offhand using Sneak + Hit.

This feature can be enabled or disabled from the Torch Config Book.

💡 Supported Light Sources

Torch OffHand supports multiple portable light sources, and each one can be individually enabled or disabled from your configuration.

This means you can choose exactly which light sources you want Torch OffHand to use without changing another player's settings.

✋ Use Light Sources in Your Offhand

Supported light sources can be moved to your offhand, allowing you to illuminate the area while keeping your main hand available.

To prevent conflicts with normal block placement, supported light items are moved to the offhand only when activated while looking at the air.

⚙️ Offhand Activation Modes

Each player can choose how the offhand mechanic should activate:

Use — Use the supported light item while looking at the air.
Sneak + Use — Sneak and use the supported light item while looking at the air.
Disabled — Disable the offhand activation mechanic.

📕 Torch Config Book

The Torch Config Book gives you access to Torch OffHand's configuration system.

Settings are stored individually for each player, making the addon more convenient for multiplayer worlds and Realms.

One player can customize their lighting without changing the settings of anyone else.

Choose between Use, Sneak + Use, or completely disable the offhand activation mechanic.

📖 Show Lighting Lore

Choose whether supported items should display their lighting information.

When enabled, the displayed lighting distance automatically updates to match your current light distance configuration.

When disabled, lighting information can be completely hidden from supported items.

🧱 Place Torches From Your Offhand

You can place torches without having to move them back to your main hand.

🔥 Sneak + Hit the block where you want to place the torch.

You must have a torch in your offhand and the Place torches while sneaking option must be enabled in the Torch Config Book.

🌊 Underwater Lighting

Sea Pickles can also be used as portable underwater light sources.

Enable Sea Pickles from your light source settings and use them to illuminate underwater areas while exploring.

When lighting lore is enabled, Sea Pickles continue to display their underwater information.

📖 Torch Config Book Recipe

You will receive the Torch Config Book when you first enter the world.

The book cannot be lost upon death. However, if you drop it or store it somewhere and can no longer find it, you can craft another one using the following recipe:
