Checkers — How to Play

Controls

  • Shoot a piece → select it
  • Shoot an empty cell → move there

Capturing

  1. Shoot your piece (select)
  2. Shoot the enemy piece (mark as victim)
  3. Shoot the landing cell (execute capture)

King

  • Reach the far row → piece becomes a King (crown appears)
  • Kings move along diagonals any distance
  • But: when capturing, the King jumps over the victim and lands on any empty cell beyond it on the same diagonal
  • Captures work both forward and backward

Special Blocks

  • Block near the board → RESET (restores starting position)
  • Red target far from the board → CHANGESIDE (teleports players between sides, alternates odd/even)

What the system enforces

  • Destination cell must be empty
  • Cannot capture your own color
  • King's long move stops at the first piece on the diagonal
  • King capture jumps over the victim and lands on any empty cell beyond it
  • King promotion on the last row
  • Captures work both forward and backward (even for regular pieces)

What is NOT enforced — honor system

This board was built within a 1000-device limit. Only the core movement and capture mechanics fit — everything beyond the geometry of legal moves could not be implemented. The remaining rules are on you and your opponent:

  • ❌ Turn order is not tracked
  • ❌ Any piece can be selected by any player at any time
  • ❌ Regular pieces can move in all 4 directions (no "forward only" enforcement)
  • ❌ Mandatory capture is not enforced
  • ❌ Multi-jump series are not automated
  • ❌ Win/draw conditions are not detected

Rule compliance is on the players. The system provides the board and move mechanics — everything else you and your opponent agree on yourselves, just like sitting down at a real board.

Play fair, respect your opponent, and enjoy.
