Forge Pipes

Build copper pipe networks between chests, charcoal kilns and furnaces in Valheim. Feed ingredients and fuel from storage, collect finished products, and build a connected workshop.

Forge Pipes 1.0
Turn your Valheim base into an automated workshop with custom copper pipes, adjustable connections, and sorting hoppers. Supply machines with ingredients and fuel, collect finished products, and move items into storage while you focus on exploring and building.
Version 1.0 brings improved performance for large pipe networks, a rebuilt hopper model, metal placement sounds, additional storage options, and honey harvest achievement credit.
Flexible pipe building
Build around your base using:

  • Stretch pipes: extend from 0.5 to 16 meters using two-click placement.
  • Straight pipes: available in 1-meter and 2-meter lengths.
  • Vertical pipes and horizontal, upward, and downward elbows.
  • Standard, upward, and downward tee junctions.
  • Four-way and six-way junctions for branching networks.
  • Standard and compact chest, ingredient, fuel, and output connectors.

Pipes automatically snap to compatible machine ports, chest connections, and other pipe ends. Chests have side and top connections, giving you more freedom when organizing storage.
Straight pipes support up to 15 degrees of adjustment when connecting. Overlapping pipe connections and network coloring are also available through configuration.
Pipes require no ground support and can support directly connected floating chests. They still take normal damage.
Automatic item transport
Connect your storage and machines to:

  • Supply ingredients and fuel automatically.
  • Collect finished products into connected chests.
  • Move items between buffer chests and final storage.
  • Continue transporting items while a connected chest is open.
  • Collect nearby dropped items through eligible pipe ends and hopper mouths.

Ground-item collection is gradual, so items may not disappear immediately after dropping.
Choose how each chest works
Press Shift + E while looking at a closed chest to cycle through:

  • Both: supplies items and receives products.
  • Send only: supplies items to connected machines or receiving chests.
  • Receive only: accepts items without sending them back out.

These settings describe the chest’s role. A Send-only chest cannot receive finished products, and a Receive-only chest cannot supply a machine.
Two chests set to Both do not transfer between themselves, helping prevent items from circulating endlessly.
For example, set the chest receiving ingots from your smelter to Both, then connect it to a storage chest set to Receive only. The first chest becomes a buffer that passes finished ingots into storage.
Sorting hopper
The copper sorting hopper provides an inventory you can open or drop items into.
It checks connected receiving chests and sends items to a chest that already contains matching items. Items without a matching destination remain in the hopper.
Place a sample item in each destination chest to organize your storage. The Leave Last Item option helps preserve those samples for sorting and quick stacking.
Leave Last Item
Enabled by default, this option keeps one of each item type in source chests instead of allowing automation to empty them completely. Different qualities and world levels are treated separately.
It applies to chest transfers and machine ingredient or fuel intake. Players can still remove items manually, and hoppers can empty completely.
Supported machines

  • Charcoal kiln
  • Smelter
  • Blast furnace
  • Wooden cooking station
  • Iron cooking station
  • Stone oven
  • Fermenter
  • Windmill
  • Spinning wheel
  • Eitr refinery
  • Beehive
  • Frigid Kiln
  • Sap Extractor

Beehives and Sap Extractors provide output collection. Other machines use the ingredient, fuel, and output connections appropriate to their operation.
Use the correct machine ports
Colored indicators help identify each connection:

  • Blue: chest connection
  • Green: ingredient input
  • Gray: fuel input
  • Gold: finished-product output

Correct ports and chest modes are essential. If items are not moving, check both before rebuilding your network.
Machines still follow their normal requirements. Cooking stations need a fire, ovens need fuel, windmills need wind, and fermenters and beehives need suitable conditions.
Improved charcoal kilns
Charcoal kilns process wood twice as fast and hold four times as much wood.
Pipes can supply ordinary Wood, Fine Wood, and Core Wood. Fine Wood and Core Wood intake are enabled by default, with separate options to disable either if you want to protect those resources.
A connected chest set to Both can supply wood and receive the resulting coal.
Cooking and honey rewards
Collecting eligible automatically cooked food from storage awards cooking XP.
Newly automated honey carries harvest credit through chest transfers and counts toward the collecting player’s honey harvest achievement progress. Credit is awarded once; returning and collecting the same honey does not award it again. Honey stored before this feature was enabled is not credited retroactively.
Unlocking and crafting
Discover Wood and Copper ingots to unlock Forge Pipes in the Hammer build menu.

  • Pipe pieces cost 2 Wood and 1 Copper.
  • The sorting hopper costs 10 Wood and 4 Copper.
  • A nearby workbench is required for construction.

Performance and customization
Version 1.0 improves large-network performance through optimized pipe models and more efficient automation updates.
Configuration options include network colors, overlapping connections, ground-item collection, pipe shadows, visual distance, stock reserves, and kiln wood selection.
Leave Last Item, Fine Wood intake, and Core Wood intake are enabled by default. Existing installations retaining an older config keep their saved settings.
Languages and multiplayer
Supports English, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese, following each player’s Valheim language setting.
BepInEx is required. The host and every player must install the same mod version. Forge Pipes is not server-only.
Automation requires the machines, chests, and connecting pipe route to be loaded. Keep gameplay settings consistent across players.
Known limitations

  • Obliterator automation remains unreliable.
  • Automation does not run through unloaded areas.
  • A full or unavailable destination can prevent collection and allow machine output to drop normally.
  • If two different players have both linked chests open, that chest-to-chest transfer waits.
